Welcome Back to MWC!

I would like to first welcome everyone back to the 2021-2022 school year. We are very excited to be coming back into the building full time and to be learning in person this year. Students will be joining us on August 23rd for the first day of school (Kindergarteners will start on August 26th and Pre-School will start on August 30th). I hope that all of you were able to have a very relaxing and enjoyable summer and had the opportunity to spend some quality time together as a family.  
 
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and some of the new staff we have at MWC this school year. My name is Andrea Wickenhagen, and I am extremely grateful and excited to be the new principal at here Marcus Whitman Cowiche Elementary. I have been a teacher and coach in the Highland School District for the last four years, as well as a Highland graduate. My heart has forever and always been a part of our amazing community.  I look forward to my new position in serving and working with all of our students and families here at MWC. My goal is to make this school year an incredible one full of learning and growth for all of our students. This year we are welcoming two new teachers to our fabulous third-grade team, Cristian Tejeda and Yoanna Rivera. We are looking forward to them joining our staff.  

You can look forward to receiving the Scottie News from us at the start of each month.  The Scottie News communicates important news including schedule changes and events happening at MWC.  Please make sure to review the Scottie News every month. If you have any suggestions for items to include in this newsletter or did not receive one, please feel free to give us a call at 678-8900.

It is very important for the students to be here every day and here on time. Each month the students will earn an extra recess for having perfect attendance.

Lastly, please make sure to be checking your students backpack for important information and homework that may be coming home from their teacher.  We will be sending home a communication folder every Wednesday.  Most importantly please read to and/or with your student at least 20 minutes a day.  You can record their reading on their monthly 20/20 calendars.  Students earn prizes for completing their 20/20 calendars every monthly.
