    "A Place to Grow"

To all parents, guardians, and students,

Welcome back!  The staff at Tieton Intermediate School (TIS) is looking forward to having all of our students here all day! As we wait on any changes to the guidelines for schools from the Yakima Health District, we are excited in our preparation for having all of our students here for a full school day.

As we get ready to come back, we have a new plan for open house and orientation due to expected COVID safety protocols.  We are planning to hold a “Meet your Teacher” opportunity on August 19th from 3:30 – 5:30.  I will post class lists on that day and we will allow one parent and our TIS student to come in the classroom outside door to meet the teacher and drop off supplies prior to the first day of school.  We ask that during our “Meet your Teacher” time, that parents and students limit their stay to less than 5 minutes so that other students may come in with a parent.  Our orientation is currently planned for the evenings of August 25th & 26th.  The orientation night will be an opportunity to spend about 45 minutes with your child’s teacher learning about school and classroom expectations, how to support your child with his/her school work, and communication plans for our building.  Again, with expected COVID safety protocols, we will need to limit the number of people in each classroom, so we will have sign up information out for those evening times soon.  Please check your email or Class Dojo for more information on how to sign up for a time.

New to Tieton Intermediate School this year we welcome in the graduating class of 2030 and 4 new staff members to Tieton Intermediate School.  Teresita Vega will be teaching 5th grade reading/language arts and math.  Shannon Ball will be our special education teacher.  We will add a new art/music teacher before school starts as well.  Cesar Farias will be teaching 4th math this year.  We welcome in two new para-educators to our building, Geobany Silva and Kandi Vopat-Stiner.  One additional new item this year will be our start time.  We will start school at 8:15 this year and our students will be out at 2:45. We are excited to for all the new additions to our school!

Due to the amount of school time missed over the last year, our students and staff have a high expectation for our students’ learning.  Our staff is tasked with challenging your son/daughter to think and grow. We will ensure that he/she will have a demanding, but supportive school environment.  One way you can support us in meeting these expectations is to ensure that your son/daughter is at school all day, every day.  Your child will find school difficult and will have a hard time meeting grade level expectations if he/she is not at school consistently.

For us all to have a successful year, we will need your help.  The Tieton Intermediate School Parent Association is very important to our future success as we use this group for communication, after school activities, fundraising opportunities to support our PBIS program, and to help make school connections with our students outside of school hours.  I encourage all of you that can be part of this organization to please join in to help us educate our children.  Look for information on our first meeting sent home soon.

Please make sure to get into Final Forms and fill out those forms before school starts.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call us at 678-8700 or email me directly at kthorson@highland.wednet.edu.
