Ms. Teryne Ollie

My name is Teryne Ollie and I was born and raised right here in Tieton, Washington and graduated from Highland High School, like many of my family members before me, as well as my daughter in 2013. Can you believe my grandma was the last graduating class of the first Tieton/Cowiche School, which is now the Catholic church in Cowiche?

My Educational Philosophy

I believe every child is unique and deserves a caring, inspiring, and engaging atmosphere in which to grow emotionally, intellectually, and socially. As an educator, I want to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing a safe, risk-taking, and collaborative environment.  I believe providing a positive educational experience is essential to creating successful life-long learners.

The Importance of Arts in School

The arts are an essential part of providing a well-rounded education for Tieton Elementary School students. The Arts teach to the whole child, involves all learning styles, and contribute to the development of powerful learning behaviors that include such skills as creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. The Arts also provide our students with a variety of ways to see the world around them and an assortment of strategies to use for learning, understanding, and expressing their thoughts. For these reasons, I believe it is essential for students, not only to learn about and respond thoughtfully to art, but also actively participate in making it.
