Superintendent's Message
Welcome to the beginning of another exciting and challenging school year!
The capital project Phase 2, which includes the HVAC updates and new roof for Highland Middle School (HMS), will be finished on schedule and completed prior to school starting August 26. When Phase 2 is completed, the Board of Directors will start the process of establishing future project priorities and timelines for the remainder of the 6-year levy.
Another area of improvement that we are excited to share is updated lighting in the staff and student parking lots. The new lighting will be brighter, is more efficient and less costly to operate, and qualifies for incentives to help cover the installation cost.
Congratulations to the students, staff, and administration of both MWC and TES. Both schools have been recognized for their improvement efforts in student achievement by OSPI and the State Board of Education. MWC was recognized for academic improvements for both the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school year. TES was recognized for the 2022-2023 school year. Each school will receive banners from the state celebrating their success. We hope to have those banners in time for the start of school. What a well-deserved honor for both MWC and TES.
Throughout this newsletter one will find articles from administrators/staff members, pertinent information to our school families, and various housekeeping items. Our goal is to provide updated information and to communicate with the Highland community the educational process of our district. Your continued feedback is vital in the communication process.

I am truly excited about the school year and look forward to working with the students and patrons of the Highland School District. Positive things are happening in our schools and all of you are to be commended for your part in making Highland such a special place.

¡Bienvenidos al comienzo de otro año escolar emocionante y desafiante!
La Fase 2 del proyecto capital, que incluye actualizaciones de HVAC y un nuevo techo para Highland Middle School (HMS), se terminará según lo previsto y se completará antes de que comiencen las clases a partir del 26 de agosto. Cuando se complete la Fase 2, la Junta Directiva comenzará el proceso de establecer prioridades y creara un cronograma de proyectos futuros para el resto del impuesto de 6 años.
Otra área de mejora que nos complace compartir es la iluminación actualizada en los estacionamientos para el personal y los estudiantes. La nueva iluminación será más brillante, más eficiente y menos costosa de operar, y califica para incentivos para ayudar a cubrir el costo de instalación.
Felicitaciones a los estudiantes, el personal y la administración de MWC y TES. Ambas escuelas han sido reconocidas por sus esfuerzos de mejora en el rendimiento estudiantil por OSPI y la Junta de Educación del Estado. MWC fue reconocida por sus mejoras académicas tanto para el año escolar 2021-2022 como para el 2022-2023. TES fue reconocida para el ciclo escolar 2022-2023. Cada escuela recibirá pancartas del estado celebrando su éxito. Esperamos tener esas pancartas a tiempo para el inicio de clases. Qué honor más merecido tanto para MWC como para TES.

Nuestro objetivo es proporcionar información actualizada y comunicar a la comunidad de Highland el proceso educativo de nuestro distrito. Sus comentarios continuos son vitales en el proceso de comunicación.
