Every day at Marcus Whitman Cowiche Elementary is a good day! Staff and students work together in a supportive learning environment that enhances every student’s opportunity for success.

MWC implemented Open Court as our new reading series in September 2003. Staff worked diligently and passionately to implement the new reading program. We’re pleased with the improved reading scores of students in kindergarten through third grade. Thank you for supporting your child’s reading success. Remember, you’re the most important teacher in your child’s life.

Students at MWC are recognized for all their hard work. Quality student work is always displayed in hallways. A favorite of staff, students and parents is our monthly picture display of activities. Each month of the school year is highlighted with lots of smiling faces! When you visit our building take a few moments and enjoy viewing all the pictures.

Students are also involved in the Accelerated Reading program, the 1000-minute reading club, Marcus Whitman 220 (reading incentive car race for 1 st grade), weekly music award, Literacy Family Night, and many individual recognition awards from classroom teachers.

The MWC Parent Association works many, many long hours to provide fun entertainment for students and families. All events are well attended and everyone has a great time. Their focus is student centered.

The Parent Association also sponsors the one major fundraiser for MWC. The annual Jog-a-thon raises money and gives all students the opportunity to participate. Students receive prizes and parties. It’s a highlight of the year for the students at MWC.

Parent volunteers are always welcomed and appreciated. Let us know if you’d like to volunteer at MWC. We’ll have a job for you!
