HIGHLAND JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Mindy Schultz, HHS/HJH Asst Principal, (509)678-7200

We would like to welcome Josh Pearce to the HJH staff. He will be teaching Social Studies and Speech. Josh graduated from West Valley High School. Last year, he completed his pre-autumn experience and student teaching with Shane Roy. He is an excellent addition to the staff and we are very excited he will be joining us. Kelly Thorson has now become the 7-12 principal and I have moved from TIS to be the 7-12 assistant principal. We are both excited about the change and are working hard to make this year the best ever.

Welcome to the new school year! It is an exciting time for Highland Junior High. We are thrilled to welcome the class of 2015 to our building. The HJH staff is committed to our mission "Highland, where everyone matters." With the help of students, staff, and parents every student will have a successful 2009-2010 school year. An exciting year has been planned and we are off to a great start.  On the 27th of August, Highland Junior High had their second annual Orientation Meeting. We would like to thank all the parents and students for coming. The teachers were excited to meet the incoming 7th graders and welcome back the 8th graders. We appreciate all the parents for coming and meeting the teacher and learning the expectations of HJH. Some of the expectations discussed at orientation were the homework policy, reading goals, and student effort. You should expect your student will be doing homework every night. Each student has a planner to record homework and assignments. Parents check your student's planner every night. Also, the students should be reading at home every night. The goal is every student will read 100 minutes each week. Let's help everyone reach that goal. If you did not have a chance to make it to orientation, you are welcome to stop by and learn more about the expectations of a HJH student. By working together we ensure every "Scot" has a successful school year.
