10 Tips for Winning Scholarships

1. Watch all deadlines. Set completion goals for yourself well before the actual due date.

2. Read directions carefully and before you start filling out the application.

3. Follow directions and provide all material requested, but don't supply items that are not - you could be disqualified.

4. Complete the application in full. If a question does not apply note it by indicating (N/A) on the application.

5. Neatness counts. Type or print information neat and legible. Make copies of the blank form and use them to draft your work.

6. Write personal and specific essays. Your personal experiences will come alive when you include the who, what, where, and when of your topic. Include how you were affected by this experience.

7. Ask for help. If you have problems completing the application contact the scholarship foundation.

8. Keep your application together by making sure your name is on every page of the application. Pieces of your application may get lost unless they are easy to identify.

9. Proof read your entire application carefully. Look for spelling and grammar errors. Have another person proof read your application.

10. Make a back-up copy of your application before you send it. If something happens to your original application then you will be able to reproduce it quickly. Use copies as reference for future scholarship applications.
